Except where noted, all classes are held at Adat Chaverim and are free of charge to members and guests.

Jewish Cooking Classes

7:00-9:00 pm

Thursday, Sept 22

 

In time for the High Holidays, Marty Fox will be your culinary guide as he shares his favorite recipes and explains the history behind these tasty traditions.  You'll prepare at least one dish and receive additional recipes to create an entire holiday meal at home. Bring your own apron, leave the rest to us!  There is a $10/per person class fee to cover supplies.  Classes are limited to 10 students.  

 Class 1: Rosh Hashanah

Registration opens Sep 6 and closes when the class is full.  Contact the office to register.

 

Additional classes will be added throughout the year for other holidays -- check back for updates.

 

  

Living  A Jewish Life

Taught by Rabbi Sternman, this is a basic Judaism class that will cover Jewish holidays, practices, and beliefs and does not assume you have any prior knowledge of Judaism.  These classes are open to everyone wanting to learn about Judaism starting from a basic level. This course is required for those considering conversion to Judaism.

 

 

The Hebrew Bible

Taught by Rabbi Sternman, this 6 session class will explore the Hebrew Bible to discover themes and deeper meanings. This class is open to everyone wanting to learn about the Hebrew Bible.  *This course is required for those considering becoming an Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

 

 

Comparative Religions

Taught by Rabbi Sternman, this 4 session class will compare and contrast the world's major religions to Judaism as well as the branches of Judaism to one another.  This class is open to everyone wanting to understand better the similarities and differences among world religions.  *This course is required for those considering becoming an Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

 

 

Jewish History

Taught by Rabbi Sternman, this 7 session class will explore the sweep of Jewish History through the millenia with the goal of understanding better how we have arrived to where we are today. This class is open to everyone wanting a broad survey course examining the highlights of Jewish History.  *This course is required for those considering becoming an Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

 

 

*The Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah is a 2 year course of study that will consist of 6 modules and culminate in Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Intermediate    Hebrew

Sundays, 9:15am

on Religious School days, starting Sep 11

 

This class, a follow up of last year's "Beginning Hebrew" is led by Michelle Sigle.  Michelle is an Adat Chaverim congregant and high school teacher in Allen ISD.  She is passionate about teaching and has a gift for making learning fun.  This class will be using the book Aleph Isn't Enough which is available from Amazon.com
